Snapchat's New Attribution Model Will Rewrite Your Lead Reports

Snapchat just took Unified Attribution out of beta and gave it to everyone. Congrats, you're all in now.

Here's what actually changed: Unified Attribution rewrites how Snap counts a conversion and the window it uses to credit one. Translation: the leads your agency labeled "Snapchat" last quarter and the leads it labels "Snapchat" this quarter were counted by two different rulebooks. Social Media Today says the update gives marketers a clearer read on performance. Sure. Clearer for Snap. Not clearer next to Meta, Google, or whatever your ILS is claiming credit for this month.

If you're running any Snap spend on lease-up or renewal, even a token test budget, this is your problem now. Your whole reporting stack depends on comparing apples to apples. You're already untangling Meta's attribution window from Google's from your ILS's own creative math. Now a fourth platform quietly rewrote its rules and didn't send a memo. The "cost per lead" in your agency's monthly deck doesn't mean what it meant in July, and nobody's going to flag that for you.

This isn't a Snapchat problem. Most of you aren't putting real money there.

It's a habit problem. The risk is your team absorbing a measurement change without saying a word about it, so a dip or spike in Snap-attributed leads gets read as a budget issue instead of what it is: the platform changed how it counts.

That's a bad call made on good instincts and bad data.

This isn't a Snapchat problem. Most of you aren't putting real money there.
