Google's API Crackdown Could Break Your Ads Integration
Google is shutting down programmatic proxies on its Ads API. In plain terms, a lot of ad agencies and leasing platforms don't connect to your Google Ads account directly. They route through a shared wrapper tool or an MCP server that manages access for dozens of clients at once. It's efficient for the vendor. It's also exactly what Google just outlawed.
The fix isn't complicated in theory: each integration needs its own dedicated Google Cloud project instead of sharing one pipe across a portfolio of clients. But "not complicated in theory" and "already done by the vendor managing your PPC" are two very different sentences, and you have no way of knowing which one applies to you without asking.
Here's why this isn't just a Google-plumbing story. If your agency or leasing platform runs Google Ads through a shared wrapper, and they haven't migrated by whatever cutoff Google enforces, your campaigns can stop syncing, stop optimizing, or just stop. Mid-lease-up. On a channel that's probably eating a real chunk of your marketing budget. Nobody sends you a heads-up when a Cloud project gets shut off. You find out when leads dry up and someone asks why.
So this is a five-minute question on your next vendor call, not a research project.
- 01Does our Google Ads integration run through a shared wrapper tool or MCP server, or does it use its own dedicated Google Cloud project for our account specifically?
- 02If we're currently on shared or proxy access, what is your migration timeline to a dedicated project, and is it already done or still pending?
- 03Has this change already caused any sync failures, reporting gaps, or paused campaigns on our account or any client account you manage?
- 04Who at your company owns this migration, and can you confirm in writing when our account's dedicated Cloud project went live or will go live?
- 05If Google enforces a cutoff before your migration is complete, what happens to our active campaigns, and is there a fallback so spend doesn't just stop?
