AI Search Rewards Reddit Comments You Didn't Write

An audit of Reddit's AI search found it keeps surfacing formal, highly upvoted comments while skipping the messier, first-person "I actually lived there" stuff. Popularity beats authenticity, at least in whatever the algorithm decides counts as authenticity.

Here's why that should bother you. When a prospect Googles your property name, AI Overviews and Reddit's own search are increasingly pulling from that thread where someone complained about parking, or the one where a resident wrote a genuinely glowing review that got forty upvotes. Not your website. Not your floor plan copy. A comment you didn't write, can't edit, and didn't know existed until a prospect mentions it on a tour.

You cannot polish this away with better meta descriptions. What you can do is stop treating Reddit like a threat to monitor and start treating it like a channel to work. That means someone on your team actually reads the threads about your submarket and your competitors, and when a resident posts something true and positive, you find low-key ways to make that post more visible instead of pretending it doesn't exist. Reply as the community when it's warranted. Don't astroturf it, Reddit sniffs that out and turns it into a worse thread than the one you started with.

The uncomfortable part: this rewards operators who actually run good communities, because good communities are what get upvoted. Bad ones get upvoted too, just for different reasons. Either way, the review that matters most this year might already be sitting on Reddit, waiting for votes.
