AI Search Doesn't Care About Your Floor Plans
Renters aren't typing "2BR apartment" into a search box anymore and scrolling an ILS. They're asking an AI something like "apartments near Mercy Hospital under $1,800" and getting a short list back, not ten blue links. If your content strategy still revolves around floor plan keywords, you're optimizing for a search behavior that's already halfway extinct.
Here's the part that should bother you: location was always the real filter. Nobody picks a community because of the kitchen island. They pick it because it's twelve minutes from the office, or three blocks from their sister, or walking distance to the train. Search engines have always had to untangle that geography. AI search just got a lot better at answering it directly, which means it also got a lot better at leaving you out of the answer entirely if your local signals are thin.
This is not a new SEO tactic. It's the same local SEO work you've been underfunding for years, now with actual consequences. Google Business Profile, consistent NAP data, neighborhood-specific landing pages, reviews that mention actual cross streets and landmarks. If your site copy says "minutes from everything" instead of naming the hospital, the campus, the highway exit, you're invisible to a system that's trying to answer a very specific question.
Audit your top five communities' local pages this month. If they read like they could be dropped into any city in America, an AI assistant will treat them exactly that way: not found.
