AI Agents Are About to Run Google Ads Without You Watching

Search Engine Journal just ran a piece on what happens to PPC once AI agents and MCP connectors start driving Google Ads instead of a human clicking around the actual interface. Governance, guardrails, who's watching the store. Wonky headline. Very much your problem.

Here's why. Your agency, or your own team, is already eyeing agent-based tools to run campaigns faster. Faster bid changes, faster budget shifts, faster A/B tests on ad copy. Great, until you ask the boring question nobody wants to ask: who approved that budget shift, and where's the paper trail? If an agent is making the change through a connector instead of the Google Ads UI you actually log into, the audit trail you're used to checking might just not exist there anymore.

For multifamily, that's not a hypothetical. That's leasing season.

You've got seasonal budget swings, submarket bid tweaks, and property-specific promos running at the same time, constantly. If an agent quietly moves spend from a slow-leasing community to a hot one, no human sign-off, no log you can pull, you're the one standing in front of your regional trying to explain a cost-per-lead spike with a shrug. Nobody currently knows how Google will surface or log agent-driven changes in reporting, or whether the third-party platforms serving multifamily will bother building their own audit layer on top. That's an open question, not a settled one.

So here's the move. Before you or your agency flips on any agent-based ad management tool, get a straight answer in writing: where do the change logs live, who can override the agent, how fast can you roll a bad decision back.

If nobody can answer that clearly, you already have your answer.

Don't turn it on yet.

If nobody can answer that clearly, you already have your answer.
